Broadcast Center offers educational options for those wanting to pursue nearly any type of employment in the broadcast industry. Broadcast Center's Television And Video Production program is designed for those who have little or no interest in the performance side of the industry and would like to work "behind the scenes" in a variety of occupations related to every major aspect of professional video and audio production.
Broadcast Center's Television And Video Production
The Television And Video Production program including Digital Video Editing and Field & Studio Production is offered up to six times per year and is strictly limited to a maximum of eight students per session. The program includes a combination of group training and individualized training. The group training is necessary due to the nature of video production since many elements of the course such as on-location shoots require the efforts of an entire production crew.
Students enrolled in the program meet collectively for three hours of group training and workshops one day per week. Students also attend two additional hours per week during weeks 1 through 7 and 4 additional hours per week during weeks 8 through 14 for one-on-one digital video lab sessions with the instructor. Students will also attend two to four additional hours per week for digital audio production training. Overall, students will generally attend a minimum of nine hours per week. Most students will complete the program in 30 to 40 weeks.
The program teaches industry skills in an environment similar to what graduates will encounter in their first jobs. Students work in an open, creatively-charged environment, learning as they work through the steps of production - from concept to finished product. Upon completion of the program, graduates' production skills are commensurate with current professional standards.
This hands-on program teaches in-depth techniques and procedures for video, including working with state-of-the-art digital broadcast television equipment. Students work with next generation non-linear production suites and receive extensive training with cameras, switchers, video and audio editors, digital video effects equipment, computer graphics, virtual sets, 3D effects, chroma-key, time base correctors, reading wave form and vector scopes, lighting and teleprompters. Students write, produce, shoot and edit television commercials, music videos, understand pre-productions with clients, problem solving, free-lancing, and career options in the video production field.
Digital Video Editing
The first half of the program (Digital Video Editing) focuses on digital non-linear editing. The student will get hands-on training and will learn to edit news stories and features, commercials, music videos, documentaries, interviews and long-form narrative projects (like TV shows and feature length films) using the latest state-of-the-art editing software.
The student will become proficient with professional cutting-edge editing and production solutions currently used in the industry and will learn the ins and outs of editing and post-production: cutting (editing), logging, titling and text animation, rendering, sound editing, video effects and filters, compositing (special effects, blue screen), color correction, DVD authoring, importing and exporting digital video to and from DV, DVD, and VHS.
Field & Studio Production
The second half of the program (Field & Studio Production) prepares the student for single and multi-camera field and studio production work. The approach of this course is hands-on location and live in-studio production with emphasis placed on camera use, lighting, sound, technical directing, floor directing, and pre-production.
From conceptual development to script writing and storyboarding through post-production the student will acquire the ability to produce commercials, interviews, documentaries, and creative narrative and work in live studio production.
Digital Audio Production
Students enrolled in Television & Video Production also learn digital audio production. The Digital Audio Production course trains students in the technical and creative aspects of producing recorded commercials, promotional announcements and programs. Students learn to conceptualize and write commercials to be produced, as well as carry out the technical skills of recording, editing, and mixing of music beds, voice tracks and sound effects.
Audio production is done digitally using computers found in Broadcast Center's many state-of-the-art production studios. Broadcast Center students learn how to use the same audio production software used in the majority of commercial radio stations.
Broadcast Center's Audio Production course is quite demanding, however, when students complete the course, they'll be ready for nearly anything they'll ever encounter in the real world of broadcasting.
